reference & inspiration point

In July 2020, the construction of the new Robinson Club Ierapetra 5 star hotel was completed, in Ierapetra Crete, a hotel of high minimal aesthetics, in an area of 150 stremmas, fully integrated into the geophysical environment. We were the exclusive partner and supplier of interior & exterior lighting of the project, in all the hotel premises. In detail “we illuminated”: 340 rooms, 3 restaurants, 3 bars, 4 swimming pools, spa, football fields, tennis and beach volley, an open-air theater and a large area of outdoor space occupied by green areas. The excellent collaboration with the architects of the project resulted in its distinction at the Lighting Awards 2020 in the category Hospitality by receiving the Silver Award – Interior Lighting & the Bronze Award – Exterior Lighting.

Challenges of
the project

The parallel course and the integration of the lighting study in the composition process had a determinative significance in this project. The central Concept of the design is governed by two main axes: the History of Crete and Ecology. Given that lighting was an integral part of the design, the performance of the atmosphere of each space was the result of the inseparable relationship between structure, materials and the intangible nature of lighting. The composition of the luminaires was not invited to serve only functional specifications but to highlight the place as well as the history & symbolisms thereof, following the central concept of design.

From concept to
design

Dominant structural element in the area is the dome on the roof of the central building, which is dominating the main facade and the entrance of the hotel, not only because of the dome’s dimensions but also because of the emphasis attributed to it through the lighting. The installation of linear wallwasher luminaires along each side, with two-way targeting, resulted in the uniform distribution of lighting on the entire structure. This element constitutes the main illumination of the entrance since the white surface indirectly diffuses and distributes lighting in the room.
