A Place of Indulgence and Inspiration
The restoration of the 170 sqm building from the 1950s was completed in 2019 and led to the creation of the sophisticated Neon Bakery & Coffee store. The building is located on the highway connecting Argos and Nafplion, a busy road of continuous flow and intense traffic.
Our team conducted the lighting design following the guidelines set by the architectural firm Studio 2PI Architecture, with the main goal of showcasing the indoor as well as the outdoor spaces while also ensuring the functionality of the establishment.
Designing the outdoor lighting installation proved to be remarkably challenging as the central idea was that the building should give the impression of a self-luminous structure. The building has a double-skin façade that consists of perforated wavy metal sheets covering all kinds of construction details. Consequently the lighting installation had to respect the same lines dictated by the outer skin of the façade.
Our perfect collaboration with the project’s architect Panos Papasotiriou resulted in the project receiving two Gold Lighting Awards in 2020.
MINIMAL AESTHETICS, HIGH EFFICIENCY
In this particular project lighting was of paramount importance, displaying the business establishment while also showcasing the architectural form of the building, which had to stand out in a semi-urban, poorly-lit environment. It was also required that the building would become a signature landmark changing the identity of the area during nighttime as the core idea was the visual continuity between day and night. The lighting had to respect the overall architectural line, while also providing a neutral and “clear” visual effect, thus ensuring the unobstructed display of the products.
Regarding the general lighting, fixtures with CCT 4000K, CRI 90 and 40o diffusion angle were selected, along with hanging lights with the ability to produce diffuse light at 360o. To successfully highlight the store’s products a LED strip of 14.4W/m was chosen, with CCT 4000K and CRI 90 and spots with CCT 4000K, CRI 90 and 24o diffusion angle. Displaying the building’s façades was also very important and for this reason was selected a wall washer with CCT 4000K, CRI 80 and 15o diffusion angle in order to illuminate the entirety of the structure.
