Where Beauty Meets Technology & Light

The ”MET Cosmetic” clinic, is located in the historic center of Patras. Since the completion of its construction, the clinic offers a unique experience to the patients waiting in the living area or in the doctors’ offices undergoing treatment. The team of Hub Lighting & Innovation, in collaboration with Office to, proposed specific lighting installations of high standard and premium quality lighting fixtures which in combination with careful management and the ability to create diverse scenarios in space, were seamlessly integrated in the architecture of the clinic all the while providing a harmonious visual effect. This proposal helped highlight the building’s basic materials, as well as the core idea, natural lighting and natural elements.

The project won the Silver Award in the Public Category, at the Lighting Awards 2022.

Challenges of
the project

Our main goal was to respect the core idea of the architectural proposal which allowed natural light to infiltrate as many spaces of the building as possible. The design was based on creating a diversity of spaces, common areas, offices and treatment areas where the requirements would vary greatly and call for different approach. One of the challenges we came across was the need of coexistence of conflicting lighting expectations, such as the creation of surroundings where the patients could relax while still maintaining the necessity of ample lighting for the doctors’ offices needed for the treatment of the patients.

From concept to
design

For the reception and the waiting areas a photometric study was carried out to ensure the visual comfort of the patients. The interplay between the light and the architecture offers strong visual elements by use of linear streams of light in the corridors that create paths for the users to follow. The rest of the space was illuminated with lights concealed either on the ceiling or inside pieces of furniture. Light temperature was maintained in 3000K throughout the entire clinic, to provide the sense of uniformity, with the exception of the treatment areas that required adequate lighting. The lighting installation is of mixed use since we had to ascertain the user’s sense of relaxation and the doctors’ ability to perform medical procedures with high precision. In conclusion, the lighting design achieved its main purpose to showcase the architecture of the space while creating a welcoming and clean environment.
