A Space Echoing the Colors of the Land
In this project the objective was to restore and redesign the existing buildings of public health interest into spaces of new use. It is a ground level establishment situated in a 800 sq m plot, on the coastal front of the city of Kalamata. Redesigning was mostly required to reconfigure the outdoor spaces so as to meet the needs of the guests during the summer months by providing a unique place for relaxation and recreation throughout the day. The basic philosophy of our design process was to lay out circulation paths perpendicular to the main entrance and the coastal road, while also organizing the floor plan and the required functions and defining and unifying spaces of varying uses (bar, restaurant, playground).
MINIMAL AESTHETICS, HIGH EFFICIENCY
The required uses had to be reinvented and redesigned taking into account different and distinct qualities. Given that perspective we formulated the original idea as to how we would approach the lighting design.
The lighting installation was designed into subsections of different uses according to the specified requirements and the lighting standards while also considering the aesthetic intervention in space. As a whole, the project included mainly outdoor spaces that could be characterized as “extensions” of the natural surroundings, which of course had to be preserved and respected.
All lighting fixtures and lamps that were used are LED technology and the color temperature that was selected is 2700K with CRI 90. The particular color temperature was considered the most appropriate choice because it helped the seamless integration of the establishment into the natural settings while also providing a unique experience of relaxation for the guests. Additionally, the high color rendering index can highlight to the maximum the quality of the materials used without altering their texture.
