Enlightening Fridays | Stories Crafted Through Light with Christina Thanasoula

As part of the enLIGHTening Fridays series, HUB Lighting & Innovation by KAFKAS welcomed Christina Thanasoula for an inspiring session dedicated to the relationship between light, storytelling, space, and human experience in cultural spaces.

Entitled “Stories Crafted Through Light,” the talk explored how light functions as one of the most powerful tools of visual language: shaping narratives, revealing spaces, evoking emotions, and communicating meaning.

Through examples drawn from the fields of culture, performance, and architectural environments, the session introduced lighting not merely as a technical layer of a project, but as an intentional creative practice capable of influencing perception, movement, and emotional connection within space.

One of the central themes of the presentation was the dialogue between theatrical lighting and architectural lighting design. Through Christina’s approach, lighting emerged as a process that begins with observation and understanding of the spatial context and develops through concept, composition, experimentation, and continuous refinement.

The discussion also highlighted the transformative role of light in everyday life and demonstrated how lighting can elevate a space from purely functional to deeply experiential. From cultural venues and performance environments to workplaces and residential settings, light was presented as a design medium that shapes atmosphere, strengthens identity, and creates memorable spatial experiences.

Another thought-provoking dimension of the session focused on the concept of lighting as narrative architecture — where illumination becomes a mechanism for directing attention, creating rhythm, and constructing emotional journeys through space.
