design options to support education
The School of I.M. Panagiotopoulou expanded its facilities with a new private secondary education school complex, extending to an area of 1,511 sq.m., in the Pallini area. The new building is located opposite the already existing school unit of the school with the purpose of expanding it in the future as well as decongesting the existing building facilities. Our team, in collaboration with the design firm CHRYSI TOMI and with the civil engineer of the project Alexis Bakas, undertook the overall lighting design of the new building, and it prepared it within a very short time.

The main objective was from the outset to ensure that the composition of lighting serves the educational process and, by extension, that it serves its multiple users. At the same time, it was required that the design and implementation be carried out within a very short period of time so that the complex can be put into operation immediately. Finally, since long stays of people in the spaces are given, it was important that the lighting rests the user.
The intention of the study was to create a functional and pleasant educational environment, which is consistent with the architecture of the building, relaxes and activates the user. In line with the above, bright lines were designed that follow the architectural aspects of the building, ensuring visual comfort and adequate lighting per spatial unit. Externally, the hard building blocks listed on the plot and the strict serial layout of classrooms, constituted design principles followed in the selection of luminaires too. Linear straight-line, technically perfect, luminaires were installed which man the structure and which support the operation of the space.
