The “Olive Sun Villa” is located in the heart of an olive grove of 4.5 acres, in a seaside area.
The study concerns the full renovation of an old building and the addition of a new section, for the creation of a six-room holiday home. The shades used inside and outside the building are harmoniously combined with the earthly elements, creating a sense of calm and composing an environment of relaxation and rest. The residence adapts to the surrounding area and it bridges the traditional architecture with the modern lifestyle. The composition is characterized by the creation of a unified character with the use of traditional materials of the island: white blocks, stone and wood, while the view is framed through vertical elements out of wood which were used in the demarcation of the oblong openings. At this residence the existence of public converses with the existence of private while the design was based on bioclimatic characteristics. In the new ground floor addition the living rooms are gathered and at the renovated two-story building, the six bedrooms with different decoration each but by configuring a single decorative style.
minimal aesthetics, high efficiency
A key element for the lighting was the indoor-outdoor dialog, as well as the traditional-modern dialog, the promotion of natural materials and the creation of an atmospheric lighting, emphasizing both the architecture of the space and the bioclimatic design thereof. The luminaires were selected both on the basis of technical characteristics and of resistance to external factors (dust-moisture) due to the seaside location of the residence but also based on a design in order for the luminaires to be in harmony with the composition and to constitute an element thereof, by highlighting the residence. The extroversion and tranquility that the space exudes, was a key element in the study of outdoor lighting, since lighting fixtures that highlight volumes and materials, with beam lamps and spotlights of stone masonry, were selected and at the same time, sign luminaires were proposed on the walls creating both the sense of safe movement inside the area and the sense of atmospheric lighting.
The luminaires were selected based on resistance to external factors but also on bioclimatic design factors. In the outdoor area lighting fixtures and IP66 hot lighting 3000K LED strips were selected in order to create a natural effect and to emphasize the natural materials and colors that have been used. In the interior space, emphasis was placed both on the quality of the lamps selected and on the possibility of managing the lighting by the user, mainly on the lighting fixtures of the living spaces and of the general lighting spaces.
