Harmony combined with Functionality
The project dealt with the lighting design of the extension of Mystras Grand Palace Resort & Spa, which is located on the slope of Mount Taygetos, below the castle city of Mystras and comprises independent two-storey guesthouses scattered over an area covering 3 hectares. The design of the lighting installation took into account three different aspects: the surrounding area, the display of the buildings and functional lighting of the autonomous guesthouses that complement the hotel complex.
MINIMAL AESTHETICS, HIGH EFFICIENCY
The main goal of the design team was to create a bond between the old and the new spaces by maintaining the pleasing aesthetics of the lighting fixtures and also upgrading the lighting levels. The lighting installations of the independent guesthouses that are scattered in the surrounding area of the hotel also proved to be a considerable challenge. Ensuring the illumination of the entire structure in the wider natural surroundings characterized by minimal natural light was also demanding.
The outstanding architecture that gives tribute to the traditional and majestic lines of the region of Mystras, in combination with a thorough lighting study, creates a unique aesthetic impression on the guest. Maintaining high color rendering indices, choosing the appropriate color temperatures and mixing different lighting diffusion angles served to showcase in the best possible way the architectural volumes, the quality of the materials and the traditional elements.
