An Apartment Characterized by Harmony
The residence is the boundary of the private space and the lighting proposal is in harmony with the aesthetics, the personal needs of the occupant and ultimately contributes to his/her prosperity. In the present apartment in Psychiko, the use of design awarded fixtures and the aesthetic intervention of the lighting in the final environment of the user were the guideline of our approach.
LIGHTING THAT FOLLOWS THE FLOW OF SPACE
In this project the challenge was to deal with a multitude of materials in a unified way and to synthesize them in a pleasant field. The apartment features white and dark surfaces, smooth and rough textures, reflective or absorbent coatings. As light reception varies considerably and uniformity of artificial lighting is a concern, the position and type of light sources required investigation.
In our first encounter with the space a fragmentary selection of points of interest started to emerge. Along the way we defined a new way of highlighting them through the use of light. Discreet lighting fixtures were used like trimless recessed lights and hidden lighting. But also dynamic lighting solutions were employed such as turning strong light beams on objects with spotlights and introducing black tracks with corresponding tracklights on a white ceiling. Arrays of nightlights were installed in the elongated corridor, while in areas that tend to get wet, such as bathrooms, our first priority was to ensure that the proposed materials would be watertight and of premium quality.
