Lighting Design Workshop at the HUB Lighting & Innovation by Kafkas with Dr. Lambros Doulos and Katerina Skalkou
At HUB Lighting & Innovation by Kafkas, we are deeply committed to fostering knowledge, creativity, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Recently, we had the privilege of hosting an exclusive educational workshop at our HUBs in Ilioupoli and Thessaloniki, led by two distinguished academics: Professor Lambros Doulos of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) and Katerina Skalkou of the University of West Attica (UNIWA).
An Experiential Educational Encounter
The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants—including lighting professionals from KAFKAS and members of the architectural firm Urban Soul Project. This unique confluence of academia and industry offered a rare opportunity to delve into contemporary lighting technologies, explore fundamental design principles, and examine sustainable innovations within architectural lighting.
Throughout the sessions, the presenters shared their profound expertise across a range of lighting applications, highlighting the vital interplay between functionality and aesthetics. Participants engaged with real-world case studies, experimented with advanced lighting techniques, and gained insight into the emerging future of lighting design.
Architectural Practice in Dialogue with Light
The contribution of the Urban Soul Project team added another layer of depth, as they discussed their experience in integrating lighting solutions into contemporary architectural contexts. The fusion of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experimentation—within the Experience Room in Ilioupoli (conceived by Dr. Lambros Doulos) and the architectural Tunnel in Thessaloniki—beautifully exemplified HUB Lighting & Innovation by Kafkas’ ongoing mission: to function as a center for education, research, and professional advancement in lighting design.
