RELUX & Reality: How to Read Photometric Data Correctly
On November 28, 2025, at HUB Lighting & Innovation by Kafkas and online via Teams, the second session of the enLIGHTening Fridays educational series took place, titled “RELUX & Reality: How to Read and Effectively Use Photometric Data.”
The session focused on the correct interpretation of lighting calculations in Relux, in accordance with the EN 12464-1 standard, bridging theoretical knowledge with the actual visual experience of space.
Key Topics Discussed
Led by Lambros Doulos, Associate Professor at the Hellenic Open University and PhD of the National Technical University of Athens, the session explored key parameters that define the quality of lighting design, including:
-
UGR (Unified Glare Rating) and visual comfort
-
Modelling index and perception of form
-
Lighting uniformity
-
Luminance distribution and spatial perception
-
LEED considerations and light pollution
-
Comparative analysis of AI lighting tools
Through practical examples, participants were introduced to a critical approach to reading calculation results, emphasizing that design decisions should be driven not only by compliance with numerical targets but by the overall spatial and visual experience.
The Speaker
Lambros Doulos brings extensive expertise in the field of lighting, having contributed to 67 research projects, authored over 100 scientific publications, and written academic textbooks on lighting. He is also actively involved in international organizations such as CIE and ASHRAE. His approach combined scientific rigor with practical application, offering valuable insights to participants.
